Bed Bug Treatments and Prevention

When it comes to managing bed bugs, early detection and prompt extermination are critical for protecting your facility, your business reputation, and your finances. As a leading bed bug exterminator in Herefordshire, PGM has developed a sophisticated, multi-prong approach to helping our commercial customers.

At PGM & SON, our primary objective in bed bug control is prevention and early detection. Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed method of bed bug prevention because people may unknowingly carry these pests into your facility at any time, especially in high-traffic urban hubs and the surrounding area.

And, once they’re inside, bed bugs spread quickly. That’s why early detection is so important. PGM offers ongoing bed bug inspections of key areas in your facility to look for the first signs of bed bugs.

Finding and treating infestations early can help you avoid more expensive bed bug extermination and remediation costs later on.

Bed Bug Pest Control

Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite

They feed on blood. They mostly feed at night.

Itchy red marks on your skin? Unpleasant smelling laundry?

You may have bed bugs | It’s more common than you think

They can’t fly. Although tropical bed bugs can climb!

Bed bugs do crawl and often they are transported (in clothes, luggage, furniture, books). They can also go for many months without feeding which increases their chances of survival.

Low standards of hygiene can increase the problem significantly. And, if one person has bed bugs, they could spread that quite quickly to others, particularly in shared buildings (think hotels, B&Bs, hostels, boarding schools, universities, student accommodation).

Catch the critters

Be alert. Inspect for blood on sheets, look for bites and live bugs. Find the cause of your itch.

Seek help from the professionals

Dr Karen Vail from the University of Tennessee, USA recently concluded that “Relying on rresidents to report bed bug infestations is ineffective. There is still a need for building-wide visual and monitor inspection by a professional.”

More Information about bed bugs

Bites may cause an allergic reaction but they are not a disease carrier. Bedbugs are commonly confused with a flea infestation.

Correct identification is critical as treatment will vary from treatment for fleas. Depending on the level of infestation, 1-2 treatments may be required.

Control Measures

  1. Treatment of all harbourages must take place; bedding, wall joints, skirting boards, furniture, structure of building and possibly roof voids.

  2. Removing clutter which makes it easier to spot bedbugs

  3. Washing and drying at 60 degrees if permitted by the manufacturer’s label.

  4. Making sure you closely inspect any second hand furniture brought into the premises.

  5. Inspecting premises after relevant events such as overnight guests in hotels.
